With the publication of the fourth and final volume, Dr Neil Miller has finally completed the herculean task of revising Walsh and Hoyt's Clinical NeuroOphthalmology. Without question, this volume is as complete and comprehensive as the previous three. Together, they constitute a superb compendium for all those interested in neuro-ophthalmology. This fourth volume is devoted entirely to vascular disorders that produce neuro-ophthalmologic signs and symptoms. The chapters are well written and beautifully illustrated, with an excellent balance of neuroaging studies and clinical-pathologic correlation. My only criticism, a minor one, is that I would have liked to see more automated visual fields used as clinical examples, since automated perimetry has for the most part become standard practice in ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology. As they stand, the indexes in each volume are not cross-referenced with each other, but in the near future a separate, cross-referenced index covering all four volumes will be issued. The completed Walsh and Hoyt's Clinical NeuroOphthalmology, 4th Edition, will become a textbook that every ophthalmologist, neurologist, and neurosurgeon, will want to have readily accessible for the evaluation of neuro-ophthalmologic patients. I'm sure that Dr Hoyt is pleased to see that his and Dr Walsh's classic work has been revised so superbly.
