She is a baron's daughter, even though she has been protected and sheltered by her family she is happy, daring and fearless AND she makes the Lyon laugh. Their love story in the beginning is so sweet.

She has a large extended family, and is the elder sister of four brothers.

She attended Murray State University and received a degree in Art. In , Jude married and took her husband's surname of White, but four years later they divorced. For years, she worked as 5th-grade teacher. She began writing in and her first book, The Enchanted land was published in as Jude Deveraux.

Following the publication of her first novel, she resigned her teaching position. Now, she is the author of thirty-one New York Times bestsellers. The only thing interesting in this book is the language and dialogues and nothing more. The story is CRAP. You have Lyonene who falls in love with Ranulf and are betrothed.

Before Lyonene is the most stupid heroine history has ever created…Throughout the book I was pulling my hair like a mad-woman, I fear Beauty Salons will refuse to let me step in their salon let alone re-style my hair… I have read some great reviews about this book but I must say that I am terribly disappointed with this one.

Before the betrothal they are both happy and sincerely want to marry each other. Then after the betrothal, Ranulf starts thinking of the betrayal of his ex-wife and thinks that all women are the same and thus, Lyonene is cheating on her. When she disguised herself as a dancer and danced in front of Ranulf, Ranulf starts kissing and caressing her all the time believing that she is a dancer and not his wife. After all this she still loves her husband and is ready to dies for her and all about the dance is forgotten.

Then the worst part, when Amicia arrives; during her first meeting with Amicia she knows that is a vile woman and has got poisonous intention. Umm was I the only one who had a problem with the fact that he hit her? Also I think she is sort of pathetic for trying to win him over when he is acting like a complete ass who let me say this one more time HIT HER.

Shrew, rescued women - Yes she rescued by hero. And she return his good intention with betrayed him.

She made heroine uncomfortable and convince her Ranulf cheating her. Yes in this place I ate my nail for stress book caused me. And want it that women be gone and dead!

But our heroine believe her deceptive word and fall her plan to abducted by one of Ranulf's men. Aghhh, sometimes I like to shake characters and put some sense in them head. Abduct, long parting - Because our heroines love sicks for her husband, she made a wrong choice and abducted by bad guys. Ransom is the reason.

But vanguard lusted after her and he wait for the birth in cause of his plans for her come true. But Ranulf is going after them and finally - nearly a four month after the abduction - he find and save her.

But enemy is alert and they didn't run to far so they hide in a cottage with injured men. And heroines labour begun. In the end our hero's have the baby his want and both cherished little boy. Here come the part that I say you "I like it this book or not. After the our stupid hero do the stupid thing ever and rescued the shrew women then story is more excited: He lift up my expectations I think I will never able to love character: Sep 14, Regan Walker rated it really liked it.

Over the next few days, he commits to marry her because she makes him laugh. Ranaulf has a dark secret in his past—an unfaithful wife who died condemning him. So he is ever suspicious of Lyonene being after his money and ever jealous of any man who comes close to her. This story takes the reader on some wide swings from wedding night rape to a loving and attentive husband though he remains arrogant to the end. Deveraux did a great job of portraying a winsome, clever and strong heroine and the dark, sometimes cruel and brutal lord.

And there is some lively dialog between Lyonene and Ranulf in the course of their many adventures with some wonderful secondary characters and an evil female villain. Jun 21, Jaymie rated it it was ok Shelves: This book. I know this was one of Jude Deveraux's first novels, if not the first. The pacing is off. To me, it felt like the story unfolded over weeks, but instead it was a year.

I could never tell how much time passed until it was spelled out for me. There were times I had to set the book aside because of what the characters were saying or doing; for example, when Ranulf and Lyonene first meet, and they pl Ugh.

There were times I had to set the book aside because of what the characters were saying or doing; for example, when Ranulf and Lyonene first meet, and they play in the woods. I don't like how Ranulf is always staring hard at her either.

Every time she says something, it's like, "Ranulf turned and gazed at her with a fierce gaze. The characters themselves are annoying too. Ranulf's a jerk and a hypocrite. I don't see Lyonene as being insecure exactly, but he rapes her twice after they're married, and instead of being angry with him, she just wonders why he hates her so much. I don't feel he ever really redeems himself either, and there are times afterwards where he blames her for their problems.

Every time she brings up the rape afterwards, he basically acts like, "Shut up. That's in the past. I've always been nice. I know she's gotten better over the years. The Black Lyon will simply never be my favorite. Oct 18, Jaden rated it it was ok Shelves: I had to reread the novel in order to start the series anew and to be able to express my opinion properly. Let's see So much jealousy, so many misunderstandings, such weak-minded characters For all their faults though, they were rather okay, I suppose, taking into consideration how old this book is and the type of the plot.

There is rape, for lack of a more accurate term - the Black Lyon hurts Lyonene on purpose - and the hero strikes the heroine across the face.

Of course it can all be bla I had to reread the novel in order to start the series anew and to be able to express my opinion properly. Of course it can all be blamed on his past which was full of lies and betrayal, but his viciousness is uncalled for. Thus if you have such issues or take offense, you'd better not pick this book, since at least half of it is full of bad mojo.

For its' length though, a slightly slower pace would've helped - or fewer pages for that matter - and better development instead of those time and emotion leaps it had. All in all, it was a promising start for the series. Apr 29, Mimi Smith rated it really liked it Shelves: This is the first book I've read by Jude Deveraux and I really liked it.

The only thing that bothered me was, at times, the plot. Then there would be a period when all is flowing good and then it happens again! Still I loved both the hero and the heroine can't re This is the first book I've read by Jude Deveraux and I really liked it. Still I loved both the hero and the heroine can't remember their names right now, though I think hers is Lyonene or Lynone, or something like that , especially The Hero even though he is dense at times, and there was this one scene that REALLY bothered me view spoiler [when he was mad and jealous and he attacked her.

I'm pretty sure that was rape, but I somehow overlooked it. Not sure how, though hide spoiler ] and found there were many great things about this book, and my overall impression was really positive, though I mainly complained here. Oh, well. Jan 24, AprilA rated it really liked it Shelves: This was a re-read of a book I read a long time ago. I forgot how much angst is in this story. Lord have mercy. My heart was in a constant state of twisting and bleeding. There was also a little less steam than I remembered.

I guess my more recent reads have just been a little steamier ; Overall, a great story if you're looking for a historical featuring a strong warrior and a super strong bride who have to battle a lot of obstacles for happy hearts! Mar 31, Slavena rated it it was amazing Shelves: I am in a Jude Devaraux mood these past 2 weeks.

I got hooked up on some of the more humorous books but I am making my way through this series. I am continuing with the series. Feb 24, Lisa rated it it was ok Shelves: Apr 22, Zeek rated it liked it Shelves: At one point he cuffs his new bride, the heroine!

When she takes an arrow for him on the field of battle, things change for them. The guy is an angry, anxsty man, because of his deceitful, unfaithful first wife and unable to let himself believe how much a good woman stands before him- until she sacrifices her life for him. This is what Jude Deveraux once did best. Create the most heinous manipulative lying bitches that somehow everyone else is blind to- including the hero- you just want to gauge their eyes out and push them off a cliff.

This story no less. Dec 27, Noelle rated it really liked it Shelves: I really liked this book. I have only read one other book by this author but have many more in my tbr, I'll have to move them up the reading list. I like books set in the medieval times, I love to see how two strangers marry then have to get to know and trust each other. It couldn't have been very easy. I think that Jude Deveraux does a good job with that type of stroy line. I also liked that at the begining of this book she gives the floor plan of the castle, it was nice to look at when reading I really liked this book.

I also liked that at the begining of this book she gives the floor plan of the castle, it was nice to look at when reading what rooms they were in. I marked this book into my rape shelf, Ranulf H does say himself that he raped Lyonene h but I didn't think it was rape. More of an anger-banger for lack of a better term. It was there wedding night, she was in the bed waiting for him, he was very angry with her and not gentle at all but she never said "no" and didn't fight him.

Dec 26, Katyana rated it it was ok Shelves: So, uh I just I despise him. And anyone who doesn't needs to see a fucking therapist. And she is TSTL. Like, astonishingly so. Like, just when I think she can't possibly be more dumb, she's like "hold my beer" May 11, C-Chat rated it it was amazing Shelves: Loved it! This book is full of drama and both of the main characters are freaking crazy! My freaking brain is fried from all of their drama but at the same time I enjoyed reading it!

Dedication : For the Wing Slayer Hunter fans. Your support is the magic that keeps this series alive. Thank you! Before the thinnest thread of his famed self control snapped. If that happened, the monster he kept locked down inside of him would break free. That creature would butcher any witch it could find to harvest the power in her blood. Then Ram would become the one thing he fought against on the streets every damned night of his life-a soulless rogue. That was his mission, the one that had him turning away without a word from the concerned faces of Wing Slayer Hunter Kieran DeMicca and his mate, the fertility witch, Roxy.

Screw their concern. They had known for a week, a fucking week! Known that the cause of the new energy winging through him as if he'd had an electrical cord shoved up his ass was not from a supersized weapon as he'd believed.

It was from his soul mirror, the one witch who could break the curse riding him, making him crave the blood of witches. He had inadvertently crossed paths with his soul mirror and somehow activated the live-wire feeling hounding him. Oh but it got better. This witch who held the fate of his soul in her hands? She'd run rather than mate with him. Well, if she was expecting him to come after her, she was doomed to disappointment. Ram did not chase witches.

He shot down the stairs from the second floor condos at inhuman speed. He ignored the warehouse on his right that served as the Wing Slayer Hunters' headquarters. Instead, he headed into the nightclub next door, Axel of Evil. Shit, he cursed, the door hitting him in the ass as his gaze traveled to every table, every dark corner.

The club was already closed.

Except for one woman. Her scent cut through the fading stink of sweat, stale perfume, and lingering sex like a spring rain. Clean, sweet, tantalizing-and familiar. Ginny Stone. She was moving around the club beneath the harsh house lights, checking on everything, and probably waiting for her brother, Wing Slayer Hunter Eli Stone, to pick her up.

She'd taken off the black and red apron the wait staff wore, leaving her in her street clothes. Hot lust drove blood right to Ram's groin. Oh hell no. He wasn't letting her see him like this, wired to fuck or kill.

This was the part of him he tried to shield her from. He cared about her opinion, didn't want her to see his dark side. Ginny was his weakness. His mate, he wouldn't even recognize. But Ginny was the one thing he wanted but would never have as anything more than a friend. She was too young at twenty-three, too innocent and way too good for him-while he was thirty six, and a highly trained killing machine who kept his emotions on ice.

Ram had gone into the Navy, then the SEALs, only to retire and vanish into a branch of the armed forces so black, so secret, only those who served and a handful of civilians knew they existed. Ram had spent a decade in hellholes all over the world, rooting out evils few could imagine and stay sane. He didn't have any business around something as sweet and real as the woman across the room from him.

He swore silently, admitting a truth to himself. His internal clock had known damn well the club was closed. It was Ginny he had come for. Seeking her out was becoming a habit. Goddamn, he was getting good at torturing himself.

Enough of that bullshit. He turned to leave. Unable to resist, he watched her graceful movements. He never tired of watching her. Damn he was bordering on sick-ass stalker syndrome. Tell her no, dickhead. Don't get any closer to her or you won't be able to resist touching her.

But he didn't move, just continued watching, caught in the web of Ginny. He thought back on the past few months when he would often stop by after closing, just to hang with her for a few minutes. Hear her laugh, inhale her scent. Friends his ass. He didn't stare at his friends, imagining them naked and willingly putting themselves at his sexual mercy.

He wanted Ginny submitting to him as he drove her to heights she'd never imagined. From her high-heeled boots, slim jeans that showed off her wickedly long legs, and flat belly, to her breasts barely hidden in a black t-shirt.

He lifted his gaze to her face.
